We can now move through the first floor of Mr. Deane's house and take a peak at another elegant parlor. Here, because it is so close to the magnificent kitchen you will soon see, we believe fancy dinners would have been served. Can you picture George Washington dining here on his way to Boston in 1775 to take command of the troops or John Adams also eating as he stopped by for a meal before the Revolution? The furniture and other items represent the lifestyle of a very wealthy and prominent family in the 1770s.

You will notice that not all the furniture is for dining. It was most common in that time for rooms to have many purposes, not just the dining room or living room or TV/computer room we find in today's houses. Notice a desk where Silas could have been writing the many, many letters, which must have kept him so busy. (In the Documents section of this website you can read some of the letters Silas wrote throughout his life.)
